Tonight I stumbled across an Amazon review of my recent book, What Are They Saying About the Gospel of Thomas?, which led me to a blog review by the same reviewer, Ben Simpson. I had not previously heard of this blog but was pleasantly surprised to see a generally positive review of the book’s contents (though, inexplicably, Ben seems to take issue with the book’s cover art??). The review also questions my failure to include a comprehensive bibliography rather than a select bibliography at the end of the book. There are two reasons for this: (1) in the substantive portion of the book I provide a detailed discussion of dozens of monographs and articles in English, French, and German, all of which are listed in the endnotes section, and (2) since the series is designed for those who are new to the subject, a select bibliography is a better fit for allowing readers to dive right in to the subject. Despite this criticism, Simpson’s review is quite sympathetic and I am happy to see the book getting some attention.
